Lunch Lecture Dow

Dow worldwide
Founded in 1897, Dow has grown from an American chemical company into a global leader in materials science. Today, we operate 98 production sites in 31 countries, including Delfzijl, Dordrecht, and Terneuzen in the Netherlands. Dow Terneuzen, located in Zeeland, is our largest site outside the United States and the second largest worldwide. Here, we produce plastics and essential raw materials used in many everyday products such as food packaging, medical equipment, electronics, and automotive components.

Circularity of polymers
During this lunch lecture, Dow Fellow Jaap Den Doelder will present Dow’s approach to the circularity of polymers and the role materials science plays in enabling a more sustainable plastics value chain. The lecture will highlight Dow’s engagement in sustainability, with a focus on design for recycling, mechanical recycling, and chemical recycling. Particular attention will be given to polyethylene, one of the most abundant polymer classes worldwide and a key focus area for Dow. Through real-world examples and scientific insight, the lecture will explore how innovation in polymer design and recycling technologies can help keep materials in use longer and reduce environmental impact.

Terneuzen: Our home base
Since opening in 1965, Dow Terneuzen has played a central role in the Zeeland region and is one of its largest employers. Our strength lies in our diverse organization, where equality, inclusion, and diversity are core values. This is made possible by our #TeamDow, with whom we are proudly celebrating our 60th anniversary from May 2025 to 2026.
